Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson has urged his players to toughen up and prepare for a challenging deciding match away to HB Torshavn on Thursday (18:00 BST).
The Fir Park club will travel to the Faroe Islands with a 2-0 advantage after producing an assured victory in the opening leg of their Conference League second qualifying-round tie last week.
Johansson’s side controlled possession and led across the key statistics, but the Swedish coach remains wary of opponents who have gone five years without a home defeat in European competition as he targets progression to the third round.
“Our aim is to deliver a strong performance,” the Motherwell manager said.
“We must show respect for both our opponents and the ground where the match will take place.
“As far as I know, they have suffered only two home defeats in European qualifying matches over the past decade.
“They have not lost a European qualifier at home during the last five years, despite hosting established sides such as Brondby, Maccabi Haifa and Helsinki.
“Anyone who believes we can simply turn up and secure an easy victory is mistaken.
“I told the players to go home, build up their toughness and get ready for a real contest. It will demand strength and courage if we are to play in our usual manner.
“We will also need to compete with full intensity. If we cannot do that, there is little point in making the journey.”
