Manchester United defender Gabby George is nearing a transfer to Brighton ahead of the new Women’s Super League campaign.
The 29-year-old still has one year left on her deal after United exercised a contract extension option in January.
Brighton are therefore likely to pay a six-figure transfer fee for the adaptable defender, who moved to United in 2023.
George is believed to want more consistent playing opportunities and could become an important addition to Brighton’s ambitious team.
She has played more than 50 matches during her time with United and helped the club secure the Women’s FA Cup in 2024.
George developed through Everton’s academy before making over 100 appearances for the club and later joining United.
The defender has earned three England caps and would add valuable experience to a Brighton squad continuing to strengthen this summer.
Dario Vidosic’s team have already recruited several players, including Switzerland captain Lia Walti and Hammarby midfielder Emilie Joramo.
After finishing seventh in the WSL last season, Brighton will begin their new campaign at home against Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September, at 12:00 BST.
United announced on Monday that manager Marc Skinner had departed by mutual agreement, with the club now assessing potential replacements.
