Stanway’s free move from Bayern to Arsenal ranks among the biggest deals of an eventful Women’s Super League (WSL) transfer window.
The midfielder collected numerous trophies during four successful seasons with the German side and has also won the European Championship twice with England.
A key figure in Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses team for many years, Stanway explained on the Women’s Football Weekly podcast how her time in the Bundesliga helped improve her game.
“I have developed enormously, both as a footballer and as an individual,” she said. “I feel much more at ease with who I am, and I have learned to appreciate spending time by myself.
“My experience in Munich also allowed me to grow into a specific role and discover the way I wanted to play, supported by the manager’s confidence and demands.”
She joins Arsenal at the peak of her career, prepared to strengthen the club’s pursuit of its first WSL championship since the 2018-19 season.
Stanway revealed that as soon as she learned of Arsenal’s interest, no other destination seriously appealed to her.
“I felt ready to move forward in my career,” she said. “It meant a great deal that Arsenal approached me before I was even available. Knowing a club genuinely wants you is a wonderful feeling.
“The project Arsenal are developing in England, across the WSL and in European competition is something I am eager to join.
“The club is raising expectations for the women’s game.”
