Arsenal are aiming to complete at least one major player sale before the transfer window closes and have indicated that Martinelli could leave.
The club considers him one of their most marketable players, alongside forward Gabriel Jesus and midfielder Fabio Vieira.
Martinelli has already rejected an offer from Galatasaray and would prefer to join another leading European side if he departs the Emirates Stadium.
“It is an extremely difficult situation, but you have to accept the circumstances,” Arteta said before Friday’s match when discussing the prospect of established players departing.
“These conversations must be handled with complete honesty and openness because that is precisely what you would expect if you were in the player’s position.
“You may not welcome the message, but when it reflects the truth and helps you gain clarity, make informed choices and plan the next stage of your career, it needs to be communicated.
“Every journey eventually reaches its conclusion. When that happens, we are responsible for managing it properly, preserving our respect and appreciation for the player and protecting the relationship while recognising that football-related decisions ultimately have to be made.”
