Savinho’s role at City diminished considerably last season following the January arrival of winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
He featured for 821 minutes in the Premier League, recording one goal and one assist, and appeared in just 31% of the minutes available to City across all competitions.
This represented a notable decline from the previous season, when he was involved in 54% of the team’s playing time.
However, his performances in 2024-25 help explain Tottenham’s willingness to spend significantly on him. Savinho delivered eight Premier League assists during that campaign, all in open play, despite completing only 1,773 minutes. Just five players produced a higher total from open-play situations.
Measured per 90 minutes, he placed third with 0.41 open-play assists. His average of 2.2 chances created per 90 was bettered only by Mohamed Salah.
His greatest danger came when advancing with the ball. Of the Premier League players who logged at least 1,000 minutes in 2024-25, only Jeremy Doku surpassed Savinho’s average of 6.8 progressive carries of 10 metres or more per 90.
Savinho also topped the league for carries that resulted in a created opportunity, averaging 1.3 per 90. Only Son Heung-min converted carries into assists at a higher rate.
He completed an average of 2.6 dribbles per 90 at a success rate of 51%, often attracting defenders with his runs before finding an available team-mate.
That quality was even clearer during his breakthrough campaign with Girona. In the 2023-24 La Liga season, Savinho accumulated 2,989 minutes, spending 65% of that time on the left flank. He contributed nine goals and eight assists while becoming one of the competition’s most threatening players in one-on-one situations.
His responsibilities changed after joining City. Over two Premier League campaigns, he operated most frequently on the right, where he spent 36% of his minutes, while only 20% came on the left. Such positional flexibility could prove valuable to Spurs.
