Swedish side Djurgardens have reached an agreement to recruit Boreham Wood winger Abdul Abdulmalik for a National League record sum reportedly worth more than £1.5m.
The transfer of the 23-year-old surpasses the previous record for an English fifth-tier player, established in 2012 when Leicester City signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town for £1m.
Following the agreement reached on Sunday morning, Abdulmalik is now in Sweden undergoing his medical examination.
The attacker delivered an impressive campaign in 2025-26, registering 17 goals and 10 assists while helping Boreham Wood advance to the National League play-off final. At Wembley, he both scored and created another goal.
The deal concludes a prolonged transfer dispute after the Hertfordshire team turned down offers of £1m and £1.5m for the former Millwall academy prospect earlier in the summer.
Abdulmalik said: “I am prepared for a new challenge and determined to show myself and the people around me that I have what it takes to reach the highest level.”
He found the net in his last Boreham Wood appearance in mid-August, but later withdrew himself from selection as he sought to complete a transfer.
Several English teams, including Peterborough United, had shown interest in signing him.
A former England Under-17 international, Abdulmalik left Millwall in 2024 before taking part in an unsuccessful trial with Portsmouth.
Djurgardens, who are based in Stockholm, currently occupy fifth place in the Allsvenskan. The competition runs between April and November, and the club have two matches in hand over most of their opponents as they continue their pursuit of European qualification.
