Away fans will not be permitted at Celtic and Rangers derbies in the Scottish Premiership or Premier Sports Cup during the current season.
The Glasgow clubs agreed to the temporary measure after discussions with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).
The decision comes after the Scottish FA conducted an independent review of incidents during last season’s Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox, where crowd trouble and pitch invasions involving supporters from both sides occurred.
Rangers will welcome Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup on 13 September before the rivals face each other at Celtic Park in a league fixture one week later.
Rangers suggested providing 300 tickets to visiting supporters for the upcoming cup match, but Celtic declined the proposal.
The disturbances on 8 March followed Celtic’s penalty shootout victory, with approximately 8,000 away supporters attending the game.
That attendance was significantly higher than at recent Old Firm league meetings because different ticketing regulations apply to Scottish Cup fixtures.
Last month, the Scottish FA confirmed that both teams must play their next home matches in the Scottish Cup without spectators.
In a statement announcing the measure, the SPFL said: “This temporary agreement gives the two clubs, the SPFL, Police Scotland and other relevant organisations an opportunity to carefully assess the independent review’s conclusions and recommendations, implement the required steps and allow enough time to prepare properly for future matches.
“The arrangement will also offer more clarity to supporters and matchday organisers while preventing recurring uncertainty over ticket allocations for individual games.
“Everyone involved has agreed to cooperate positively throughout this period, with safety and security continuing to be the main concern.”
