Robinson was brutally honest after the match, criticising the low energy shown by his players.
“We appeared exhausted and sluggish,” he said. “We’ve come through two demanding matches and considerable travel. There was slightly more intensity in the second half, but the necessary quality was still missing.”
“We deserved the outcome we got, which is disappointing. Fatigue affected our decisions: we held onto the ball for too long and played too many passes backwards.”
“After difficult fixtures against Rangers and Celtic, along with all the travelling, our performance reflected the workload. The players ran out of energy and looked drained. Nobody deliberately performs badly; that simply isn’t human nature.”
However, tiredness may not fully explain the display. Playing three times in one week is demanding, but two of those matches were at home, while Kilmarnock covered more distance than Aberdeen during the same period.
“If players already seem weary and short of energy at this stage of the campaign, their preparation and lifestyle must be questioned, because fatigue should not yet be an issue,” Foster added.
“Several new players have arrived, but the squad returned months ago for pre-season, so there has been enough time for them to settle and adapt.”
