The England international has made an impressive start in Spain, quickly establishing himself as an important part of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona forward line.
Although he has yet to find the net, Gordon’s speed and willingness to run at defenders complement Barcelona’s attacking approach.
When asked why the club selected Gordon instead of Rashford, Barcelona sporting director Deco explained that the team’s preferred way of playing was more closely aligned with Anthony’s qualities.
He added that Gordon’s style matched the type of player the coach wanted.

Flick acknowledged that any forward naturally wants to score and noted that Gordon had been unable to convert several opportunities.
However, the Barcelona coach stressed that Gordon’s decisive passes had helped create goals, which was equally valuable to the team.
Gordon registered two assists within four minutes during his league debut against Elche.
He also broke through for a one-on-one opportunity against the Elche goalkeeper and could have scored on his first league appearance.
Instead of taking the shot, Gordon sent the ball across goal to Fermin Lopez, who finished confidently from close range.
That decision offered supporters a clear insight into Gordon’s character. Rather than seeking personal recognition with a debut goal, he chose the option that gave his team the best chance of scoring.
After the game, Gordon said that winning was always the objective but emphasized that the team’s interests came before individual ambition, particularly at a club such as Barcelona.
