Aberdeen may be subject to disciplinary measures after several fans entered the Rugby Park pitch following Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup victory against Kilmarnock.
Jack Milne converted the decisive spot-kick as Aberdeen secured a 3-1 penalty shootout win after the match finished 1-1 following extra time. The Dons will now meet Rangers in next month’s semi-final at Hampden Park.
The Scottish Professional Football League, which organises the competition, will examine the post-match incident in East Ayrshire. It will also request an explanation from the Pittodrie club regarding pyrotechnics used during the quarter-final.
The SPFL previously reduced Rangers’ and Celtic’s ticket allocations at Hampden after extensive flare use interrupted last season’s League Cup semi-finals.
The SPFL and Scottish FA are also considering stronger measures to address unacceptable behaviour in Scottish football.
Both Old Firm sides have been instructed to stage their next Scottish Cup home fixtures without spectators because of disorder during and after their quarter-final meeting at Ibrox in March.
