Despite the setback, Goodwin said he has been “truly humbled” by the support he has received since entering hospital in late August.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone from the football community and beyond who contacted me and sent their best wishes,” he said.
“Everyone at Dundee United, along with our fans, has been incredibly supportive. The display during last week’s match against Falkirk was a wonderful gesture. My wife, my children and the NHS teams at the Royal Hospital in Glasgow and Stobhill in Bishopbriggs have also been outstanding. Thankfully, I have now fully recovered and cannot wait to return.”
While Goodwin was away, assistant Lee Sharp led the side to a 4-0 victory at Kilmarnock, followed by a loss at Motherwell and a home draw against Falkirk.
“It was an unusual time for my children because, throughout the past 20 years, they have rarely known me to spend so much time at home. It required some adjustment, but the Dundee United staff and players have been excellent,” Goodwin said.
“I remained in regular contact with everyone each day. I could still watch the matches and communicate with those on the bench, but it will be fantastic to return to the touchline tomorrow, especially at a familiar venue in Paisley for the game against St Mirren.”
