Pocognoli FaceTime Call Supports Lennon Miller Through Scotland’s Troubled Summer

Periods of transition often create new possibilities.

Clarke’s tenure has ended, with Sebastien Pocognoli now tasked with delivering the changes Scotland supporters have been demanding.

The Belgian coach has selected a refreshed squad for the upcoming Nations League double-header, including the returning Miller.

The 20-year-old is beginning to establish greater consistency during his second campaign with Udinese after making such a significant move.

Miller has appeared in each of I Bianconeri’s five Serie A fixtures and has started their two most recent matches.

He also played a prominent role in both of his side’s Italian Cup victories, completing the full 90 minutes against Venezia earlier this month.

A steep learning process was inevitable for a promising youngster who made his Motherwell first-team debut only six days after his 16th birthday.

His father, who is due to represent Aberdeen in next month’s Tennent’s Sixes tournament, feels the midfielder is progressing well as he prepares to impress Scotland’s new head coach.

“It is fantastic to see him included again, and the manager had a pleasant FaceTime conversation with him the day before the squad was revealed,” he said. “That was a very encouraging and proactive step.

“His first year in Italy was naturally about settling into his new surroundings and adapting. He has already received more playing time this season, which has been very positive.

“He continues to improve every day over there. The routine, environment and way of life are completely different, but the whole experience has been excellent.

“He simply needs to maintain the work he is doing at club level and, hopefully, bring that form into the Scotland squad.”
