Aberdeen Forfeit 500 Semi-Final Tickets Following Pitch Invasion

News

Aberdeen’s ticket allocation for their Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers has been reduced by 500.

The penalty comes after supporters entered the pitch and set off pyrotechnics during the previous-round away fixture against Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen had received approximately 17,000 tickets for the semi-final at Hampden on 31 October, but the club must now cover the cost of the seats withdrawn under the SPFL sanction.

Several fans went on to the Rugby Park pitch after the Dons won the tie in a penalty shoot-out.

Responding to the punishment, recently appointed Pittodrie chief executive Adrian Bevington described the club’s supporters as highly passionate while emphasising that most behave responsibly.

He said the club must make sure it avoids similar situations in the future that could result in additional penalties.

In a subsequent statement, the club warned supporters that using pyrotechnics is unlawful and may result in a banning order.

The statement noted that the ruling highlights the serious impact such behaviour can have on both the club and fans who simply wish to support the team.

Supporters were also urged to think about the effects of their conduct and help preserve a safe and enjoyable matchday experience for everyone.
