Sancho and Bellingham Inspire Mikey Moore’s Loan Move to Germany

News

Moore has experienced a hectic few weeks since completing his deadline-day switch to Koln.

The 19-year-old has now settled into an apartment near fellow England youth players Reigan Heskey and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, who are also spending the season on loan at the club, and has begun focusing on learning German.

He attended his first lesson this week and, encouraged by his mother, intends to build a broader German vocabulary over the next few weeks.

“I was never the strongest student at school, so learning the language may take me some time,” Moore joked. “But if I dedicate enough hours to it, I believe I will eventually get the hang of it.

“Hopefully, I can at least learn enough words to order a meal in German.”

The forward will not need to depend entirely on his German skills when Koln visit Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich next month.

That match will also offer him an opportunity to meet Harry Kane again. Kane was still playing for Tottenham when Moore received his first invitation to train with the senior team during the 2021-22 campaign.

“He has been one of my biggest role models since childhood. When Antonio Conte first brought me into senior training, Harry Kane was there, and I witnessed finishing of a quality I had never seen before or since,” Moore said.

“Facing him and being on the same pitch will be an incredible experience. It is something I am eagerly anticipating.”

Nearly 10 years after Sancho headed to the Bundesliga, Kane has become the leading English presence in Germany’s top division. Moore, meanwhile, hopes to depart the Allianz Arena with a memorable souvenir.

“I will do everything I can to get his shirt,” Moore said. “I actually saw him during the most recent international break and went over to greet him. If we cross paths again during the next one, I will definitely ask him to save his shirt for me when our teams meet.

“Hopefully, I will return to Koln carrying it with me.”
