Real Madrid recorded their third consecutive Champions League win with a commanding 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Wednesday, as Kylian Mbappé and Yan Diomande found the net for José Mourinho’s team.
Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock from close range late in a closely contested first half, before Arda Guler extended the 15-time European champions’ lead shortly after the restart.
Mbappé curled in Madrid’s third goal, while Tidiam Gomis responded for the German visitors. Diomande then completed the emphatic win with a powerful volley into the top corner during the closing stages.
“We understand how valuable every point is in the race for a top-eight place, and we need to collect as many victories as possible. We have won our opening three matches, with five still to play,” Mbappé said. The French forward, who is hoping to receive the Ballon d’Or next week, has scored in every Champions League appearance for Madrid this campaign and has registered 12 goals in 12 matches across all competitions.
“My form is good, although I believe there is still room for improvement,” he added. “I am among those players who must constantly expect more from themselves. This is a positive period, but we need to maintain our momentum, and I must continue raising my level.”
Lask produced a superb turnaround away to Sporting to secure their first Champions League victory of the campaign. The Austrian champions fell behind after Luis Suárez converted a penalty in the fifth minute, but Christoph Lang restored parity 10 minutes later.
The visitors then shocked the Estádio José Alvalade crowd, with Sasa Kalajdzic completing a slick passing move before Krystof Danek struck at the near post to establish a 3-1 lead. Suárez added his second goal late in the contest, but Sporting were unable to complete a comeback.
Galatasaray powered past Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, making a rapid start when Yunus Akgun scored after only two minutes.
Soriba Diaoune equalised for Lille and then struck again in the 39th minute to move the hosts ahead. Aleksey Batrakov levelled the match shortly before the interval, after which a Nabil Bentaleb own goal and a finish from former Lille player Victor Osimhen completed Galatasaray’s 4-2 triumph.
Inter were reduced to 10 players when Alessandro Bastoni was dismissed midway through the second half, but a late Carlos Augusto goal delivered a 1-0 home victory against Shakhtar Donetsk and earned the Italian champions their first points of the league phase.
Bastoni received two yellow cards within the space of two minutes, leaving Inter under sustained pressure. Carlos Augusto rescued the hosts in the 77th minute, finishing a rapid counterattack with a precise low shot.
Real Betis maintained their perfect Champions League record by defeating Feyenoord 1-0 through an Isco penalty, continuing their impressive opening to the season.
Betis created most of the opportunities but could not find a breakthrough until Jeremiah St Juste was penalised for handling the ball inside the area. Isco converted the resulting spot kick with a low effort into the right corner, scoring the match’s decisive goal.
Club Brugge delivered a clinical display at the Jan Breydel Stadium to overcome Lens 3-0. Hans Vanaken opened the scoring in first-half added time, while Joaquin Seys and Carlos Forbs added further goals after the break to complete the victory.
