The Netherlands delivered one of the most emphatic results of the Group F stage with a crushing 5-1 win over Sweden at NRG Stadium. What looked like a competitive fixture on paper quickly turned into a showcase of Dutch attacking quality, as Sweden struggled to cope with the pace, movement and finishing on display.
Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo were the standout figures, each scoring twice as the Dutch repeatedly opened up Sweden in the final third. Crysencio Summerville also got on the scoresheet to cap a ruthless team performance that combined direct running with clinical execution. From the opening exchanges, the Netherlands looked sharper in possession and far more dangerous whenever space appeared.
Brobbey gave the Dutch a cutting edge with his finishing, while Gakpo added calmness and threat in key attacking moments. Summerville’s contribution underlined the variety in the Netherlands attack, with danger arriving from multiple positions rather than one isolated source. Sweden could not establish control and were continually forced onto the back foot by the intensity of the orange shirts.
Anthony Elanga managed Sweden’s only goal, but it did little to change the direction of the contest. By that stage, the Netherlands had already imposed themselves with authority and turned the match into a statement victory. Every Dutch attack seemed capable of producing another opening, while Sweden lacked the defensive answers needed to slow the momentum.
In tournament terms, the scoreline matters as much as the performance. A 5-1 group-stage win does more than add three points; it sends a warning across Group F and beyond. The Netherlands did not simply win — they announced themselves as a serious force.
