Arsenal’s squad overhaul continues with the addition of Spanish goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez, who joins on a free transfer. The 27-year-old leaves Real Madrid after six seasons at the club.
The Women’s Super League outfit had already reinforced the squad with Georgia Stanway (arriving from Bayern Munich), Selina Cerci (Hoffenheim), Ona Batlle (Barcelona), and Géraldine Reuteler (Eintracht Frankfurt), all part of a push to contest the championship. Last term they ended the campaign in second place, trailing Manchester City by four points.
“I feel immensely proud to become part of such a prestigious club,” Rodríguez stated. “Arsenal ranks among the world’s elite sides, and I’m thrilled to join this squad and embrace a fresh test. My aim is to contribute to our pursuit of silverware and create further historic moments alongside our fans.”
She has twice claimed the Zamora Trophy, given to the goalkeeper with the best goals-conceded-per-game ratio in the Spanish top flight, and was named captain of Real Madrid in 2025.
Hailing from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and born in July 1999, Rodríguez came through the youth ranks at CD Femarguin and later moved to Atlético Madrid in 2017. She subsequently signed for Deportivo La Coruña ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, where she cemented her reputation as one of Spain’s brightest young goalkeeping prospects, aiding the club to a fourth-place finish in their debut season in the top division.
Arsenal’s manager, Renée Slegers, said: “Misa is an outstanding goalkeeper who has delivered high-level performances year after year. Beyond her technical qualities, she brings commanding presence and strong communication on the field, and we are confident she will strengthen our group of goalkeepers, complementing Daphne [van Domselaar], Anneke [Borbe] and Isabella [Damm].”
