Barcelona have expressed their solidarity with the relatives of a worker who died while carrying out renovation work at the club’s Nou Camp stadium.
Catalan regional police said the 54-year-old is thought to have died after sustaining what was described as “a blow” during redevelopment work on Friday.
Emergency crews attended the stadium, where expansion work is intended to raise capacity to 105,000, but they were unable to save the man.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Catalan club said it was deeply saddened by the worker’s death following the workplace accident during renovation work at Spotify Camp Nou.
The club offered its sincere condolences and support to the man’s relatives, friends and fellow workers.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta also personally conveyed his sympathies to the family and said the club remained available to assist them.
The stadium redevelopment started in June 2023 and is scheduled to finish in early 2028.
