Coventry City Sign Carl Rushworth Permanently from Brighton

News

Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of 25-year-old goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion after his impressive loan spell at the CBS Arena.

Reports suggest the transfer could be worth a club-record £22m, although the two clubs have not disclosed the fee or the duration of his long-term deal.

Rushworth featured in all 46 league matches for Coventry last season and recorded 17 clean sheets as the club claimed the Championship title and secured its first Premier League return in 25 years.

Rushworth said he was delighted to complete the move and was experiencing a range of emotions.

He added that he felt excited and relieved to have the deal finalised, allowing him to reunite with his teammates at a club where he thoroughly enjoyed playing.

The goalkeeper did not make a senior appearance for Brighton and spent time with six clubs on loan during his seven years there after joining from hometown side Halifax Town in 2019.

Manager Frank Lampard welcomed Rushworth’s permanent return to Coventry.

Lampard praised him as an outstanding professional with a strong personality who played an important role in the team’s promotion last season.
