Megan Finnigan, the captain of Everton, has agreed a one-year extension to remain with the Women’s Super League outfit.
Thanks to the new deal, the 28-year-old will soon mark a full 20 years at the club, a spell that includes her formation in Everton’s academy.
The central defender missed the entire previous campaign with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but she noted that she is feeling optimistic and described reaching two decades at the same side as a landmark moment.
“Right now I’m in a really good frame of mind. I’m pleased to have this wrapped up, and from a recovery standpoint, things are going well,” Finnigan shared.
“I’ve been coming in during the off-season and pushing hard to get fit again. This season is my 20th with the club and that means so much. Hopefully it becomes even more significant because it’s the year I step back onto the pitch.”
Since making her senior bow in 2015, Finnigan has racked up more than 200 appearances for the Merseyside team.
