Wrexham have secured the services of Preston North End skipper Ben Whiteman on a three-year contract that includes an option for an additional season.
The 30-year-old midfielder arrives for an undisclosed fee after passing a medical with the Red Dragons on Tuesday. He has already made 200 appearances in the Championship.
Whiteman becomes Wrexham’s second addition of the summer transfer window, following full-back Danny Imray’s move from Crystal Palace.
Whiteman said he was delighted to complete the move and described joining Wrexham as an incredible feeling.
He believes the club is currently an attractive destination for players competing in the Championship.
The midfielder added that Wrexham’s ambition to reach the Premier League matches his own, making the opportunity difficult to turn down.
Whiteman was a regular throughout his five-and-a-half years at North End, although manager Paul Heckingbottom criticised the way he pursued an exit from Deepdale.
Heckingbottom believes the experienced midfielder went too far by informing club officials that he had already played his last match for Preston.
The Preston manager said Whiteman had been aware of a boundary he was not expected to cross but chose to do so.
Heckingbottom added that his priority is now to bring in a replacement.
