Chelsea will not compete in European football next season after ending the campaign in 10th place, during a turbulent year in which Enzo Maresca departed and Liam Rosenior was relieved of his duties.
Alonso now faces several challenging squad decisions.
The goalkeeping department appears settled. Robert Sanchez is expected to be joined by highly rated Belgian prospect Mike Penders, 21, after his impressive loan spell with French side Strasbourg, while Teddy Sharman-Lowe is likely to take the third-choice role.
At right-back, captain Reece James, who can also operate in midfield, is accompanied by Gusto and Palestra.
Chelsea have valued Gusto at £75m amid reported interest from Manchester City.
On the opposite flank, Jorrel Hato is already available, while Chelsea are nearing a £16.3m deal for Chavarria.
Chelsea currently have nine central defenders, but Alonso has indicated that he wants to reduce that number to “four or five”.
Disasi and Badiashile can be sold, while Mamadou Sarr is likely to leave temporarily. If those moves happen, new recruit Lacroix would compete with Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo.
The future of Argentina Under-20 defender Aaron Anselmino remains unresolved, although another temporary move seems probable after he spent last season with Borussia Dortmund and Strasbourg.
In midfield, Chelsea have placed a £120m valuation on Fernandez. He is considering his future, though the club would also be content for him to stay.
Other midfield choices include key player Moises Caicedo, the returning Romeo Lavia, versatile new arrival Barco, Henderson and Dario Essugo.
Essugo, 21, had initially been informed that he would remain with the squad, but he is willing to consider a temporary move to secure regular playing time after a season disrupted by injuries.
In the attacking positions, Mykhailo Mudryk’s unexpected return presents Chelsea with another issue to resolve.
Chelsea say every possibility is still being considered as they evaluate his condition following a 20-month absence caused by a suspension connected to a positive test for the prohibited substance meldonium.
Jamie Gittens provides another option on the left, while Pedro Neto and new signing Geovany Quenda are more comfortable on the right. Cole Palmer and Rogers are the two main choices for the number 10 position.
Chelsea are also aiming to begin next season with three centre-forwards. Joao Pedro and summer recruit Welbeck are expected to be joined by one additional striker from the current squad.
Emegha currently appears the most likely candidate, although the situation is not settled because Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap also remain contracted to the club.
