England forward Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an alleged incident at a nightclub in Soho.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the 30-year-old Northampton resident was charged on 31 July with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police said the allegation concerns an incident reportedly occurring on 6 December last year at a nightclub on Wardour Street in central London.
Toney, who plays as a striker for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.
A newspaper reported on 8 December that Toney had been arrested in connection with an alleged head-butting incident.
A representative for Toney said he is aware of the charge and, while understandably surprised, welcomes the chance to defend himself and clear his name in court.
