Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven believes the club’s ambitions are evident after committing his future to Spurs with a new long-term contract.
The Dutch international moved from Wolfsburg in 2023, initially signing a six-year contract that was due to run until 2029.
Van de Ven had reportedly been assessing his future in north London, but Roberto de Zerbi’s appointment in March played a decisive role in convincing the 25-year-old to remain at the club.
The defender contributed to Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in 2025 and wore the captain’s armband for the final six games of last season, helping the team retain its Premier League status.
Van de Ven said he has felt a strong connection with Spurs ever since arriving at the club.
He added that he values the supporters, has progressed significantly during his time there and is eager to contribute to the club’s plans for the future.
De Zerbi praised Van de Ven as one of Europe’s leading central defenders and a key member of Tottenham’s squad.
The Italian coach said the club is developing a strong project and considers players such as Van de Ven essential to its long-term success.
Since leaving the Bundesliga, Van de Ven has played 96 matches across all competitions for Spurs. He has also earned 24 international caps and represented the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup.
Tottenham have placed 17th in two consecutive seasons, securing survival only on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign.
However, the club has invested £237m in new players this summer, including a record-breaking £100m deal for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.
