Arsenal Renew Pursuit of Aston Villa Defender Ezri Konsa

News

Arsenal have renewed their pursuit of Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa.

The 28-year-old remains on holiday following the World Cup and has not joined Villa’s squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup fixture against Paris St-Germain.

An earlier attempt by the Gunners to sign Konsa this summer failed to progress. The London side were prepared to offer around £30m for the England defender, while Villa value him at approximately £60m.

Konsa made 48 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa last season and helped the club win the Europa League.

After completing the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Premier League champions Arsenal are now prioritising defensive reinforcements. They have stepped up their pursuit of Konsa, with his ability to operate in multiple positions considered an important asset at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal recognise that they must substantially increase their initial proposal to secure Konsa. However, it remains uncertain whether Villa would consider selling the defender for less than their stated valuation.

The Gunners are also understood to have held preliminary discussions with Tottenham regarding a possible deal for club captain Cristian Romero.

Given the fierce rivalry between the north London clubs, Spurs are believed to have no interest in allowing the 28-year-old to join Arsenal.

Nevertheless, Arsenal have made enquiries about a transfer that would rank among the summer window’s most unexpected moves.

Romero suffered a knee injury against Sunderland in April that kept him out for the rest of the domestic campaign. He later recovered to start for Argentina at the World Cup, playing 70 minutes in their final defeat against Spain.
