Hull City have condemned the appalling racist messages aimed at new recruit Robinio Vaz following the announcement of his transfer on social media.
The post confirming the 19-year-old French forward’s arrival from Roma on a season-long loan was published on Tuesday but has since been removed.
The club said it is cooperating with Humberside Police and other relevant organisations to identify those behind the offensive messages.
In a statement, Hull said nobody should be subjected to discriminatory abuse and pledged to give Robinio its complete support.
The club reiterated that it does not tolerate discrimination in any form and said it had contacted the Premier League, anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out and the relevant social media platforms during the previous 24 hours.
Hull also expressed its solidarity with Robinio and urged supporters to keep reporting all instances of discriminatory behaviour.
Vaz scored once in Serie A last season, and his loan agreement includes an option for Hull to make the move permanent when the campaign ends.
Head coach Sergej Jakirovic described the incident as unacceptable and insisted there could be no tolerance for such conduct in modern society.
He also criticised the use of anonymous accounts, questioning why those responsible were unwilling to reveal their real identities.
Jakirovic said everyone at the club fully supports Vaz. As the player does not yet speak English, French-speaking members of the squad have helped explain the situation to him, and the coach confirmed that he is doing well.
