Hull City have completed the transfer of centre-back Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano in a record-breaking deal for the club.
The 21-year-old defender has agreed to a five-year contract that includes the possibility of an additional season.
Although the exact fee was not disclosed, the club confirmed that it exceeds the £20m plus bonuses recently spent on Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, who arrived from Olympiacos.
The previous club record had remained untouched since 2016, when Hull paid £13m to sign midfielder Ryan Mason from Tottenham.
Mendy expressed his delight and pride after completing the move.
He described himself as an athletic, natural defender who enjoys playing with the ball and advancing from the back with composure, while also showing aggression when required.
The centre-back added that playing in the Premier League had been a childhood ambition and said he was prepared to embrace the challenge.
Mendy began his professional career with Paris FC before joining Rayo Vallecano, where he scored two goals in 28 appearances during his sole La Liga campaign. His last match for the Spanish side was their Conference League final loss to Crystal Palace.
He had also appeared in the same competition’s final a year earlier with Real Betis, who were defeated by Chelsea.
Mendy has made one senior appearance for Senegal, earning his cap against Gambia in March.
