Leicester endured a difficult campaign last season as their five-year spell in the WSL came to an end, mirroring the relegation suffered by the club’s men’s side.
The women’s team won only two of their 22 fixtures and finished with a goal difference of -41 after struggling in front of goal.
The relegation raised doubts about the team’s future, including whether matches would continue to be staged at King Power Stadium and whether financial support would be reduced.
However, the club responded quickly by allowing those who wished to depart to move for significant transfer fees, with the money then invested in rebuilding the squad.
Whether those changes will prove sufficient remains uncertain, but Tierney views this period as a chance to build a new Leicester side that other clubs will admire in years to come.
“When I arrived at Leicester, we trained in a nearby public park rather than alongside the men’s team at Belvoir Drive. The progress since then has been remarkable,” she said.
“I want Leicester to become a club that players are eager to join and reluctant to leave. I want others to look at what we have built with envy.
“This club has the potential to reach that level, and I hope we can make it happen.”
Tierney moved to Leicester from Sheffield United in 2020 and has worked with seven different managers during her time there.
She helped the team secure promotion to the WSL in 2021 and was also involved in their run to the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals three years later.
The midfielder accepts that the required transformation will take time, but she wants Leicester to establish themselves as a stable WSL club rather than repeatedly moving between divisions.
“My personality makes it difficult for me to walk away when I believe my work somewhere is still incomplete,” Tierney added.
“I support the club’s ambitions and understand the changes that must be made for us to move in that direction.
“Most importantly, I want everyone here to develop the same bond with Leicester that I have and to share a genuine desire to see the club improve.
“Whenever my time here comes to an end, I want Leicester to be stronger than they were when I arrived.”
