Former Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Mike Bailey has passed away at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness.
The midfielder, who earned two England caps, began his playing career with Charlton Athletic and joined the Molineux club in 1966.
Bailey played 436 times for Wolves and scored 25 goals. He captained the team to League Cup glory in 1974, two years after helping the West Midlands side reach the Uefa Cup final.
During his last campaign with Wolves, he contributed to the club’s promotion back to the highest division.
He later spent a short period with Minnesota Kicks in the North American Soccer League (NASL), then returned to England to serve as Hereford’s player-manager.
His subsequent managerial career included spells with Charlton, Brighton, Greek team OFI and non-league club Leatherhead.
