Arsenal are focusing on loan proposals for Ethan Nwaneri, as the reigning Premier League champions are reluctant to approve a permanent departure for the young forward.
The 19-year-old has faced considerable uncertainty over his future during the transfer window, with the academy product drawing attention from several teams in England and across Europe.
Questions surrounding Nwaneri intensified after he was omitted from the matchday squad for Sunday’s Community Shield victory against Manchester City.
Those at Arsenal recognise that Nwaneri has reached a point in his development where consistent first-team football could be highly beneficial.
However, Mikel Arteta already has numerous attacking options available, making regular playing time difficult to guarantee. There is therefore a belief within the club that spending the new campaign elsewhere could support the teenager’s progress.
The final decision will largely depend on the proposals Arsenal receive. Although a temporary move is preferred, an offer substantially exceeding the club’s valuation of the attacking midfielder could prompt officials to reconsider a permanent transfer.
Arteta recently indicated that he would like Nwaneri to remain at the club, while stressing that any decision must also reflect what is best for the player’s medium- and long-term development.
AC Milan, Red Bull Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Fulham are among the sides reported to be interested in signing Nwaneri.
Arsenal’s wider intention to move several players on during the summer has added further uncertainty to Nwaneri’s situation in recent weeks.
Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Fabio Vieira are among those the club would consider selling.
