Marcus Rashford said he wants to focus on playing football without seeing his name discussed “every day”, following Gary Neville’s attempt to bring up the Manchester United attacker during a podcast.
Rashford responded to a clip from the Stick to Football podcast in which Jamie Carragher showed his irritation after former United defender Neville asked the panel for their views on the forward.
“Is it possible to record a podcast without talking about Rashford?” Carragher asked.
“Give it a rest. Oh my God. It always seems to be Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Rashford getting their own section of the podcast. Either the Trent discussion or the Rashford discussion.”
Responding to the footage in a post on X, Rashford said: “Thank you, Jamie. I would love the chance to keep my head down and concentrate on football without hearing my name brought up every day.”
The 28-year-old appears likely to remain with United after spending the previous campaign on loan at Barcelona, where he lifted the La Liga trophy.
Rashford has not played a competitive match for United since appearing under former head coach Ruben Amorim in December 2024, although he may be involved in Saturday’s Premier League opener against Hull.
After United suffered a 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan on Saturday, defender Harry Maguire said he wanted Rashford to remain at Old Trafford, describing him as a “major asset” who poses an “enormous threat” to opponents.
