Manchester City are considering Roma midfielder Manu Koné as they look to provide Enzo Maresca with more options in the middle of the pitch.

City have already completed the £116m acquisition of Elliot Anderson and are nearing an £85m deal for Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi. However, Maresca is also interested in Koné because of his energetic and versatile style. Roma are expected to demand about £50m for the player.

The 25-year-old delivered several strong performances for France at the World Cup, appearing in five of the team’s eight fixtures. France secured victories in each of the four matches he started.

Bringing in Koné would give Maresca another player with experience at the highest level. City recently lost Rodri after the World Cup-winning Spain captain completed a move to Barcelona on Tuesday for approximately £65m.

Anderson established himself as Declan Rice’s preferred midfield partner for England during the World Cup and made his Premier League debut with Newcastle in 2021. Bouaddi, by comparison, remains short of senior experience at only 18 years old.

Another midfielder left City on Wednesday, with Tijjani Reijnders joining Al-Qadsiah in a transfer valued at roughly £51m following just one campaign at the club. The Dutch international generally plays as a No 8, while defensive midfielder Nico González could also depart before the transfer window shuts on 1 September.

City are also likely to submit a formal offer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, although their valuation is believed to fall below the west London side’s £120m asking price.

The club’s active summer could also see Savinho and Omar Marmoush move to Tottenham, with discussions continuing over a potential double transfer worth close to £150m. Savinho has been associated with Spurs before, while Marmoush has recently attracted interest from Roberto De Zerbi.

The clubs have yet to finalise an agreement, but talks concerning the Brazilian winger and Egyptian attacker are reportedly moving in a positive direction. De Zerbi believes both players would strengthen the depth of his squad.
