Cardiff City prospect Axel Donczew has moved to Arsenal, joining the club’s latest group of first-year scholars.
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder attracted attention last October after becoming the youngest player to represent Cardiff’s senior side, although Noah Anyadike surpassed that record in August.
Cardiff stated that they offered Donczew terms to continue progressing through their academy and attempted to keep him, but the youngster chose to leave the Welsh capital.
Donczew has also agreed to a pre-contract deal with Arsenal, which is expected to result in him signing professional terms with the north London side.
The Cardiff academy graduate has represented Wales at youth level but remains eligible to play internationally for Poland.
He was 15 years and 234 days old when he entered Cardiff’s EFL Trophy match against Newport County as a substitute.
His second senior appearance for Cardiff came last December, when he came off the bench during an EFL Trophy loss to Wimbledon.
