Women’s Super League: Manchester City Finalize Wamser Signing

News

Manchester City have secured the services of full-back Carlotta Wamser from Bayer Leverkusen on a four-year contract.

The 22-year-old German international is capable of playing on either side of the defence. She moved to Leverkusen from Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent in July 2025.

Wamser becomes City’s third addition of the summer, following defender Niamh Charles from Chelsea and forward Beth Mead from Arsenal.

Her arrival strengthens the reigning WSL champions amid injuries to Charles, Grace Clinton, Vivianne Miedema, Jade Rose and Laura Wienroither. City begin their title defence at home against Birmingham City on Sunday.

Wamser has earned 14 senior caps for Germany after progressing through the country’s youth teams. She was also part of the squad that won the Under-17 European Championship in 2019.

She said she had received an excellent welcome, already felt comfortable at the club and was excited about beginning her time in Manchester.

Wamser described the English competition as the strongest in world football and Manchester City as one of the game’s leading clubs.

She added that the move represented the ideal next stage of her career, offering her an opportunity to improve as a player while embracing a fresh challenge.

City director of football Therese Sjogran said the club was thrilled to welcome Wamser.

Sjogran explained that City had followed the player for a considerable period and expected her to contribute energy, determination and a strong desire to develop.

She also said that such a promising young player choosing the club for the next phase of her career demonstrated confidence in the project being developed in Manchester.
