Premier League forecasts: Chris Sutton takes on boxer, Ipswich supporter Fabio Wardley and AI

News

When Ipswich last earned promotion to the Premier League in 2024-25, they needed 19 matches and had to wait until 30 December to secure three victories. This time, however, the revamped squad have already reached that mark after only six games.

“Promotion usually brings significant changes to the squad. To survive, a club must recruit players capable of making a real difference while providing the variety and alternative options required at this level,” Wardley said.

“With so many new arrivals and Gary O’Neil also taking charge as manager, it was reasonable to wonder how effectively and quickly everyone would come together. So far, though, the team have looked excellent.

“Our results at the beginning of the campaign clearly show that we deserve to compete in the Premier League.

“Claiming three victories from the opening six fixtures is an impressive return for any newly promoted club, and the players are performing extremely well at the moment.”

Wardley attended two of those victories in person, and both were sealed by dramatic late goals.

“My training camp has followed a demanding and tightly controlled schedule, so I have had plenty to focus on. Even so, I have made every effort to visit Portman Road whenever possible,” he added.

“I attended the opening match of the season against Sunderland, when Jack Clarke delivered a memorable winner in the final moments.

“Shortly before leaving to begin the final preparations for my fight, I also watched Saturday’s match against Fulham, which finished in similarly dramatic circumstances.

“We conceded early and fell 1-0 behind, but fought our way back before scoring twice in three minutes, including the decisive goal during stoppage time.

“Victories achieved in that manner demonstrate the strength of the team’s character. The players are already displaying tremendous determination and resilience, qualities that will be essential throughout the season.”
