Shrewsbury Town’s prolonged ownership process is nearing completion after an American investment group received permission to acquire the club.
The League Two side was formally notified on Monday that the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) and the English Football League (EFL) had approved the proposed purchase by the consortium, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
Shrewsbury said details of the incoming owner and lead investors would be revealed once the club is in a position to make them public.
“With the regulatory requirements now completed and approval secured, attention turns to finishing the outstanding paperwork and completing the change of ownership at the earliest opportunity,” the club said in a statement., external link
“The chairman remains determined to complete the deal and oversee an orderly transition to the new ownership.”
Chairman Roland Wycherley placed Shrewsbury Town on the market in 2024. After several prospective deals fell through, frustrated supporters’ groups issued an open letter calling for clarification.
“A full reply to the open letter received on Sunday, 6 September, will be provided after it has been carefully reviewed,” the statement continued.
“We appreciate the patience shown by our supporters and will share further information as soon as circumstances allow.”
