Napoli confirmed that Scott McTominay underwent successful heart surgery and is expected to return to training later this month.
The 29-year-old had an ablation at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday morning. The minimally invasive procedure is used to treat abnormal heart rhythms.
McTominay was taken off in the 56th minute of Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A loss to Como on 30 August.
Medical examinations identified a mild and non-dangerous arrhythmia, leading to the corrective procedure.
Napoli announced in a statement, external that McTominay would rest for two weeks before returning to training. The club had anticipated that the former Manchester United midfielder would be available again following the international break in early October.
After news of the condition emerged, McTominay reassured supporters on Instagram that he expected to be back with Napoli soon.
Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli is set to oversee his first four matches at the end of September and the beginning of October. They include home and away fixtures against Slovenia, along with Nations League games against North Macedonia and Switzerland.
