Manchester City have recruited players who are “hungry for success”, while the entire squad has embraced new manager Enzo Maresca’s vision, according to recently appointed captain Ruben Dias.
City invested a Premier League-record £458m in the latest transfer window, adding several players to their ranks, including midfielders Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The club also generated more than £300m from departures, although it lost considerable experience with the exits of 2024 Ballon d’Or recipient Rodri, former skipper Bernardo Silva and England defender John Stones.
Dias has belonged to City’s senior leadership group since his £65m move from Benfica in 2020, and Maresca has now selected him to wear the captain’s armband.
Dias said his responsibilities remain centred on becoming the best possible version of himself, meaning his approach has not changed despite receiving the captaincy.
He explained that although many proven winners have departed, the new arrivals possess strong ambition and an intense desire to succeed, qualities that can help the club continue moving forward.
Dias added that Maresca and others who have already enjoyed significant success at City can clearly show the squad which standards and principles are essential.
He believes the determination of the remaining players, combined with the energy and aspirations of the newcomers, creates the right balance for the team to keep competing for trophies.
