Harry Kane broke a record that had stood for 49 years by becoming the quickest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals. The milestone came in his 98th league appearance for Bayern Munich as they defeated Union Berlin 7-0.
Dieter Müller had held the previous benchmark since 1977 after reaching the century mark in 129 games for Cologne. Kane’s scoring rate of more than one goal per match made the new record seem only a matter of time. Since joining Bayern in 2023, the England captain has averaged a league goal every 78.5 minutes. He has also registered 152 goals in 154 appearances across all competitions, including 61 in 51 matches last season.
Kane claimed the record by powering home a penalty in the 39th minute. He then headed Michael Olise’s cross into the net shortly after halftime, helping Bayern move to the top of the standings before the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
His achievement overshadowed an impressive display from Olise, who completed his first hat-trick for Bayern, as well as a spectacular goal from Jamal Musiala.
Kane said he was extremely proud to have reached 100 Bundesliga goals and then added another, especially given his relatively short time in the competition. He explained that he had enjoyed every moment and credited teammates such as Olise, Luis Díaz and Musiala for regularly creating scoring opportunities.
The striker also expressed his gratitude to his teammates, the club, the coaching team and the staff members who supported him in reaching the landmark. He said the team should continue in the same manner, adding that scoring more frequently represents an important step and that he continues to enjoy every moment on the pitch.
