Bradford City ended a 58-year wait to defeat Luton Town and moved ahead of Sheffield Wednesday at the League One summit. Although the Bantams have managed only seven goals across seven matches, they have allowed just four, matching the best defensive record in the EFL. Given his previous spell at Deepdale as a player, Graham Alexander has unsurprisingly been mentioned as a possible candidate for the vacant Preston North End job.
McLean: “Bradford are an enormous club. The atmosphere created at Valley Parade and the strength of their support make that obvious. Graham Alexander is an excellent manager, and he appears to be at the ideal club to keep developing.
“Their ability to recover from setbacks has been especially impressive this season. After winning their opening two fixtures, they suffered consecutive defeats, which raised doubts about whether the strong start had been misleading. They answered those questions by claiming three straight victories, showing they can react positively when difficulties arise.
“Can they maintain a promotion push while scoring so few goals? Probably not in the long term, but it has not caused problems so far because their defending has been outstanding and opponents have found them extremely difficult to overcome.
“That resilience runs throughout the entire team, and once they take the lead, they are very effective at protecting their advantage until the final whistle.
“I believe they will become more clinical in front of goal, while Bobby Pointon is a hugely talented young forward who could develop into one of the division’s leading strikers over the coming seasons.”
