With Yang Hyun-jun still representing South Korea at the Asian Games, Celtic have deployed both Sebastian Tounekti and James Forrest on the left wing.
However, Brown feels the team’s difficulties are not limited to that position.
“Rangers put Celtic under pressure, restricted Callum McGregor’s influence and marked him closely. When Cal is prevented from controlling the game, it becomes difficult for another player to take charge.
“That is when players such as [Benjamin] Nygren or [Mika] Baur must move into deeper areas and fulfil that responsibility. The team cannot continue relying on Cal to handle everything.”
Brown also believes the opening stages of the match could prove decisive.
“Rangers were prepared for a physical contest,” he added. “The opening 15 minutes should be fiercely competitive. Winning that early battle can give you the opportunity to settle and play with the ball.
“Celtic made an extremely sluggish start last week. They must focus on the fundamentals and show determination and desire because the quality is certainly there.
“You simply cannot afford to perform like that against your fiercest rivals.”
