Manager Stale Solbakken tried to steer attention away from the subject, briefly describing Haaland as “very good” and someone who is “scoring goals”, although he acknowledged that the striker failed to convert an opportunity against Portugal that he would usually put away.
When questioned about whether he needed to speak with the forward amid the increased scrutiny, Solbakken responded: “Our conversations remain private.”
Ajer provided a little more detail, explaining that Haaland remained completely focused midway through this four-match Nations League period.
“He has behaved just as he always does when he joins the national team,” Ajer said.
“His attention is firmly on the matches ahead. Like everyone else, I believe he is waiting to see how the situation develops, but his immediate priority is tomorrow night’s game against Wales. That has clearly been his approach.”
Asked whether Haaland had acted differently since the news emerged, the 59-cap Ajer replied: “Not in the slightest. From the first time I met him, he has always brought tremendous energy and happiness to the squad.”
“The greatest praise I can offer him is that he has not changed at all since we first met, despite now being one of the world’s most prominent stars.”
“He has remained exactly the same over the past few days, which is no surprise to me.”
