Martin Sherif: Everton striker penalized for violating betting regulations

News

Everton attacker Martin Sherif has received a £5,000 fine from the Football Association after violating betting regulations during a 15-month spell.

The 20-year-old acknowledged that he caused, allowed or facilitated 61 wagers on matches from 20 November 2024 to 12 February 2026.

Sherif stated in his defence that he had not personally made the bets, although he accepted that they were placed through accounts registered to and financed by him.

An independent regulatory panel noted that Sherif had expressed sincere regret over the matter.

The Liberia-born striker, who has represented the Netherlands at youth level, entered Everton’s academy in 2019 before starting to train with the senior squad in early 2025.

He moved to Port Vale on loan in February for the rest of the campaign, registering two goals across 17 League One matches before the club suffered relegation.
