Manchester United XI:
Senne Lammens: An early mistake could have proved extremely costly, but the Belgian recovered to deny Dominic Solanke. Another poor touch soon afterwards highlighted his nervous start, while a pass sent directly out of play reflected United’s difficult opening half-hour. Perhaps could have reacted better to the equaliser. 5
Leny Yoro (off 59, Dalot): Selected after making his France debut and produced an excellent challenge to prevent Jan Paul van Hecke from getting a clear attempt on goal. A respectable performance. 7
Harry Maguire: Provided his customary reliability in the centre of the home defence, although he had few opportunities to make an impact in attack. His ambitious effort from 30 yards underlined the lack of better options. 7
Lisandro Martinez: His partnership with Maguire was an encouraging feature for Man Utd, but Solanke comfortably overpowered him when Spurs scored their equaliser. 6
Luke Shaw: Among the home team’s steadier performers. Advanced to win a corner early in the second half and later made an important defensive intervention. He was fortunate not to be dismissed after reacting by pushing Rodrigo Bentancur. 6
Kobbie Mainoo: Lost possession too frequently, although several passes played to him inside his own half placed him under unnecessary pressure. Looked to control play from a deeper midfield position and made a superb block to stop Savio. 7
Youri Tielemans (off 59, Baleba): Escaped punishment after Savio dispossessed him deep in United territory when a questionable free-kick was awarded. Later showed composure by heading the ball back to Lammens and easing the pressure on the home goal. 6
Amad Diallo (off 59, Zirkzee): Needed time to settle during his first appearance of the season, but eventually registered the home team’s opening shot. 6
Bruno Fernandes: Produced a subdued display compared with the form that earned him last season’s player-of-the-year honours. His decision not to shoot when an opportunity appeared suggested a loss of confidence. 5
Matheus Cunha: His response to the frustration from the crowd demonstrated his commitment, but, like several teammates, he has not yet matched last season’s standards. Supplied the pass for Mbeumo’s goal. 6
Bryan Mbeumo: Received too little support to consistently influence the match as the central striker, but initiated one counterattack and finished impressively on the turn for United’s goal. 8.
Subs:
Diogo Dalot (on 59, Yoro): Almost created an opportunity for Bruno Fernandes with a delivery from the right flank. 5
Carlos Baleba (on 59, Tielemans): His arrival energised the home supporters, and he contributed with numerous challenges. 5
Joshua Zirkzee (on 59, Amad): Made an immediate impact by winning a corner and quickly imposing his physical presence on Tottenham. 6
Ayden Heaven (on 90, Shaw). 5
Marcus Rashford (on 90, Cunha). 5
Unused substitutes: Karl Darlow, Mason Mount, Andrey Santos, Shea Lacey.
