Will Lankshear: The Kane-Like Forward Tottenham May Regret Losing

“Boro created a huge number of opportunities, and he was confident he could put himself in position to convert them,” local commentator Mark Drury said.

“What has impressed people most, however, is his natural finishing ability. He often needs only one touch and consistently appears in the right area. It may look straightforward, but few players can time their movement so well and create such high-quality scoring opportunities.

“He is taller and more powerfully built than he may appear from the stands, and he is still only 21. He seems to possess a complete range of qualities, including the ability to use either foot and compete effectively in the air.”

An English striker standing 6ft 2in, known for clinical finishing, who developed at Spurs before gaining valuable experience in the Football League. That profile may sound familiar.

“I can see why people compare him with Harry Kane,” Robinson said. “His career has followed a similar route, and he also has a comparable physical presence.

“Like Kane, he appears to be reaching his potential slightly later than players who establish themselves as Premier League regulars while still in their teens.

“When you consider his development and the direction of his career, there are clear parallels with Kane’s journey, which is encouraging. Regular first-team football is invaluable, whatever the standard of the competition.”

Lankshear also experienced difficulties early in his career. After beginning in Arsenal’s academy, he was released and later joined Sheffield United before Spurs signed him for £2m at the age of 17.

His loan experiences produced mixed results as well. A quiet period at West Brom was followed by a more productive spell with Oxford.

“Harry Kane’s temporary moves were not all outstanding successes either, so loan performances do not always define a player’s long-term potential,” Speechly said.

“He did not produce anything exceptional, but our own lack of goals makes the situation particularly frustrating to watch.

“We may never see another player exactly like Kane, although there are certainly shared traits. He is a genuine penalty-box finisher with an excellent work rate, making his style strongly reminiscent of Kane.”
