Eom Ji-sung: Swansea winger strong enough to overcome alleged racial abuse

News

The events at Millwall occurred shortly after the Football Association of Ireland confirmed it was examining claims that Swansea striker Adam Idah had been subjected to racist abuse from Israel supporters during last month’s Nations League match against the Republic of Ireland.

Matos has discussed the incident, which took place during a fixture in Serbia, with the 25-year-old Idah.

“The circumstances were different because the referee in that match said he had not heard anything, meaning the game could not be halted,” Matos explained.

“As I wasn’t present, it is difficult for me to assess exactly what happened.

“At Millwall, however, I witnessed the situation myself. The fourth official followed the established procedure, which I believe was the correct response, and the matter is now being investigated.”

Eom remained on the bench at Millwall but has delivered a series of impressive performances for Swansea this season. He also played a part in South Korea’s Asian Games triumph earlier this month.

He could return to the team on Saturday when Championship leaders Swansea welcome third-placed West Ham United, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 BST.
