Burnley will establish an unwelcome English football record if they do not defeat Portsmouth in their next home fixture on Saturday, 31 October.
The Clarets’ most recent home league victory was a 2-0 Premier League win against Leeds United on 18 October 2025.
Sheffield Wednesday currently own the record for the longest period without a home league victory among clubs competing in England’s top four divisions.
The Owls went 376 days without winning a league match on their own ground between April 2025 and May 2026.
Burnley’s Championship meeting with Pompey later this month will take place 377 days after their victory over Leeds. If the Clarets cannot overcome John Mousinho’s team, the record will become theirs alone.
The calculation excludes clubs that left the English Football League before subsequently returning.
It only covers winless sequences recorded while teams were competing in one of the top four tiers of English football.
Since defeating Leeds 12 months earlier, Burnley have contested 21 home league fixtures. Six have come in the current Championship campaign, while the other 15 were played in the Premier League last season.
Across those 21 matches, Burnley have drawn 10 times and suffered 11 defeats.
Burnley did secure an FA Cup victory at Turf Moor in January 2026, overcoming Championship club Millwall in the third round. However, Mansfield Town eliminated them at the same venue in round four, adding another home loss to their record.
Burnley also defeated Notts County in the opening round of this season’s Carabao Cup, although they needed a penalty shootout to advance.
