Kane delivered another dazzling display, further strengthening his position as the leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The 33-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur skipper could become the first English player to claim the prestigious individual prize since Michael Owen in 2001. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Paris St-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele and several other leading names are also considered strong candidates.
Kane was included among the 30 nominees announced in September, with the winner set to be revealed on Monday after ballots are cast by an international panel of 100 journalists.
Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice told TNT Sports that Kane deserved to win, pointing to his extraordinary statistics and outstanding performances throughout the year.
Rice explained that Kane’s quality becomes obvious when playing alongside him, while opponents quickly discover just how difficult he is to contain.
He described Kane as an exceptional footballer, adding that he feels fortunate to have him as an England team-mate, even if facing him at club level is far less enjoyable.
Kane’s goal against Arsenal on Wednesday made him only the second player in Champions League history to score in 10 successive appearances.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only other player to accomplish that feat, having found the net in 11 consecutive games for Real Madrid between June 2017 and April 2018.
Onuoha said Kane appears completely comfortable at Bayern, having developed a strong understanding of the team’s approach. His team-mates also recognise that he can create danger whenever he receives the ball, regardless of his position on the pitch.
He added that Bayern’s players are making the most of Kane’s abilities, while the striker continues to accept responsibility in decisive moments, including from the penalty spot.
According to Onuoha, freedom is the best way to define Kane’s role at Bayern. His defensive effort gives him greater licence to express himself in attack, and he is currently flourishing within that system.
His strike against Arsenal increased his Bayern Munich record to 156 goals in 158 appearances since arriving from Tottenham in 2023.
It was another memorable occasion for the England captain, although an even greater moment may await him when the Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place in London.
Kane said winning the award would be an incredible achievement, but acknowledged that voting had ended some time ago and all he could do was wait for the final result.
