Celtic manager Martin O’Neill revealed that Alistair Johnston “felt something again” during his brief substitute appearance in the victory over Hibernian.
The 28-year-old Canadian right-back missed much of last season because of hamstring trouble and had been sidelined since early August after suffering another setback.
Johnston lasted only 21 minutes after coming off the bench in Celtic’s 2-1 win at Easter Road.
“We are not certain about the situation at this stage,” O’Neill said.
“After experiencing several hamstring injuries, any discomfort or minor pain naturally becomes a concern.
“Neither he nor the medical staff can confirm the problem yet. He will need to undergo a scan before we know more.”
There was better news for O’Neill as centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers completed the final 17 minutes after replacing Johnston. The United States international had been unavailable since the middle of September.
“We obviously want every member of the squad available again,” O’Neill added.
“He appears to have finished the match without any problems, and I am pleased to see our important players returning.”
