Putellas was raised in Mollet del Valles, a Catalan town located roughly 12 miles north-east of Barcelona.
She first developed her skills by playing football in the streets and soon became a passionate Barcelona supporter who regularly visited Camp Nou.
Football was constantly shown on television in her family home, with former Spain and Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, alongside Brazilian stars Rivaldo and Ronaldinho, emerging as her early inspirations.
After taking part in a summer football camp organised by Xavi and representing local club CE Sabadell, Putellas spent one year at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy.
When her girls’ team was dissolved, she went on to play for Espanyol and Levante before eventually rejoining Barcelona in 2012.
That move marked the beginning of a remarkable 14-year spell with the club she had supported as a child, during which she collected 38 trophies, including 10 league championships and four European titles.
However, after receiving her first Ballon d’Or in 2021, Putellas endured one of the most difficult periods of her career when an ACL injury suffered just before Euro 2022 forced her to miss the competition.
Although she won the Ballon d’Or again later that year, regaining her finest form required time. Her limited involvement in Spain’s successful 2023 World Cup campaign was likely a frustrating experience.
She scored in the 2024 Champions League final and continued to improve during the following campaign. In 2025-26, she took on much of Barcelona’s creative responsibility while Aitana Bonmati was sidelined for five months, finishing the season with four trophies.
The midfielder also struck twice during a commanding 4-0 victory over England in June, a result that secured Spain’s qualification for the 2027 World Cup at the expense of the Lionesses.
With her Barcelona contract nearing its end and a desire to pursue a new challenge, Putellas chose to leave the club she had loved since childhood. The departure was deeply emotional for both her and her supporters.
Despite receiving proposals from clubs in England, Mexico and the United States, she joined London City Lionesses in July, becoming part of the ambitious project led by American billionaire Michelle Kang.
Putellas explained in an August interview that she is always searching for opportunities to improve and believes she must continue developing both personally and professionally.
Having registered three goals and one assist across her first seven WSL appearances for the club, Putellas has shown that she remains worthy of her celebrated nickname.
